The CIB Best Doctoral Dissertation Award 2025 has been created to recognise and reward outstanding doctoral research in the built environment.
Doing a PhD is one of the most demanding but the most rewarding learning tasks. It takes years to work, persevere and motivation to generate new knowledge. Doctoral research does not only develop theory but also comes up with applied solutions that can develop housing, cities, and infrastructure.
This award is supposed to bring into light the efforts of PhD students. Most of them spend years in research but with little exposure outside their universities. The award assists young scholars to gain confidence and recognition as well as respect in the academic and professional community by honouring their contributions.
In addition to the recognition, the award highlights the sharing of findings by scholars and their connection with experts worldwide. It helps doctoral candidates turn their research into a bridge between local issues and global solutions, while opportunities to publish your research further extend its impact.

| Membership Requirement | Applicants must be members of a CIB Student Chapter. Each university can nominate only one candidate, making the process competitive and ensuring the best research is put forward. |
| Submission Deadline | 30 September 2025. This deadline allows enough time for universities and students to prepare and submit their applications. |
| Submission Must Include | 1. Dissertation abstract (up to 4 pages) 2. Letter from the PhD committee chair confirming the date of dissertation confirmation 3. Completed dissertation in PDF format |
The CIB Best Doctoral Dissertation Award 2025 offers young researchers a platform to be seen and heard. Many PhD dissertations remain confined to academic shelves, but this award showcases their real-world impact.
The award demonstrates that doctoral research can be used to solve some of the most pressing issues societies are confronted with today by bringing up issues such as sustainable design, urban planning, and the development of infrastructure.
