We are proud to celebrate Dr. David Lassner, who has been honored with the 2025 NASH Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognizes leaders whose lifelong work has created lasting progress in higher education and inspired generations of students, faculty, and communities.
Dr. Lassner has had a long career with the University of Hawai'i, working there over 47 years in various capacities including the president of the University. Through his work, there have been policies, programs and partnerships formed that have strengthened the university system and the community of education in general.
In his life, Dr. Lassiter has devoted his attention to creating access and opportunities to learners in the state of Hawai. His leadership has increased scholarship programs and enhanced student support services and opened doors to the underrepresented groups. His work is motivated by the fact that he believes that each student deserves an opportunity to achieve.
Dr. Lassner is described by co-workers and students as a reflective and consistent leader and his influence will still be felt in the University of Hawai'i even after his retirement. His leadership shows how resilience, vision, and care can shape the future of education in meaningful ways.
His decades of service and contributions are well deserved and this awards, NASH Lifetime Achievement Award is appropriate.
