We are proud to spotlight Dr. Pamela Klassen, who has been honored with the 2025 Dr. Suning Wang Award for Outstanding Graduate Mentorship. This award celebrates educators whose guidance and support have shaped the next generation of scholars.
The work of Dr. Klassen examines the complicated relationship between Christianity and colonialism and provides a better understanding of the relationship between history, religion and culture. Her work about religion, media and belonging has created new avenues of interpretation of stories that describe communities throughout the globe.
One of the main aspects of the legacy of Dr. Klassen is her mentorship. She has mentored over 35 graduate and postdoctoral students, assisting them to establish robust academic careers and occupy themselves with difficult questions. Mentoring is one of the things that makes her impact reach much further than her own work.
Dr. Klassen encouraged the discussion of faith and society as a Visiting Professor at Harvard University (2022-2023). Her work cut across various views and stimulated worthy discussions that still continue to reverberate in academia and the general public.
The Dr. Suning Wang Award emphasizes not just the spectacular scholarship of Dr. Klassen, but also her permanent service to students and co-workers. It understands the strike of excellence she provides in her research and personal direction, and how excellent teaching can be a matter of caring and mentoring.
