We are proud to celebrate Prof. Jan Cools, a leading figure in cancer research, who has been honored with the EHA Education & Mentoring Award 2025. This award recognizes individuals who not only advance scientific knowledge but also guide and inspire the next generation of researchers.

A Career of Scientific Impact

Prof. Cools has spent more than 20 years advancing research in leukaemia and oncology. His work spans across:

  • Molecular genetics to uncover how blood cancers develop.
  • Mouse models and targeted therapy to explore better treatment options.
  • Next-generation and single-cell sequencing to study cancer at the most detailed level.
  • Patient-derived xenografts to connect laboratory findings with patient care.

Prof. Cools has also worked as a journal editor in Haematologica and HemaSphere over a period of more than ten years which helped to develop hematology and oncology across the globe.
