She is the current Chair of the International Association of the Study of Popular Music (IASPM), in which she leads discussions and partnerships in the formation of music study throughout the global community.

Professor Bennett is a highly prominent expert in the field of music as well. She has written and edited six books, which address cultural and academic aspects of popular music. Her work and literature have remained pertinent in the study, teaching and appreciation of music in the society.
Her work as a teacher has also garnered both national and international awards. These awards demonstrate that she was able to inspire students and guide colleagues and create learning environments that foster creativity and scholarship.
