We are proud to recognize Richard Graves, FAIA, for receiving the Innovation Impact Award 2025. This award recognizes his exceptional contribution to the development of the built environment in Minnesota and the move towards a sustainable future.

Building a Greener Minnesota

Richard Graves has been one of the main figures behind the promotion of sustainability in architecture and construction throughout the Minnesota state. His vision has changed the world of building designs, constructions and the maintenance of buildings in a realistic way.

He led the development of the Minnesota Sustainable Building Guidelines (B3), a statewide framework that has helped make green building a standard practice. These guidelines have supported more than 600 buildings, covering over 40 million square feet, and have saved around $130 million in energy costs.

Key Contributions

  • Promoted green design standards that support healthier and more efficient buildings.
  • Championed resilience and net-zero design, helping communities prepare for future challenges.
  • Encouraged collaboration between architects, policymakers, and local organizations to build responsibly.
  • Helped create measurable results through programs that reduce energy use and environmental impact.

A Vision for the Future

The leadership of Richard transcends expertise. He motivates others to consider the role design can play in coming up with a better and a more sustainable world. His work has been a continued influence to the architects, students, and communities in Minnesota and even in other parts of the world.

The Innovation Impact Award 2025 is a sign of his strong sense of sustainability and the possibility to transform ideas into the sustainable change.

We are proud of such leaders as Richard Graves, who are shaping the future at GlobalX Publications with their thoughtful design, care about the environment, and community. His story reminds us that innovation is not just about new ideas—it’s about making those ideas work for people and the planet.
