Prof. Dr. Sarah Egert receives the University of Bonn Teaching Award 2026 for outstanding achievement in teaching and excellence in nutritional physiology education.
Prof. Dr. Sarah Egert has been named a recipient of the University of Bonn Teaching Award 2026, recognizing her contribution to university teaching in nutritional physiology and food science. The award was presented as part of the University of Bonn’s annual teaching prizes, which honor educators for their commitment, specialist expertise and innovative approaches to teaching.
The University of Bonn Teaching Award 2026 recognizes 14 academic teachers from across the university. Prof. Dr. Sarah Egert was selected for the Faculty of Agricultural, Nutritional and Engineering Sciences, where she is associated with the Institute of Nutritional and Food Science.
According to the University of Bonn, the teaching prizes are based substantially on student evaluations and nominations from the university’s faculties and the Bonn Center for Teacher Education. This makes the Sarah Egert teaching award notable as recognition connected to students’ experiences of university teaching.
Egert’s academic field is nutritional physiology, an area that connects nutrition science with biological processes and human health. Her work within the Institute of Nutritional and Food Science also places her in an academic environment spanning nutrition, food science and related educational programs.
The University of Bonn has presented teaching awards since 2011. The university describes the award as recognition not only for teaching performance but also for contributions such as curriculum development, study-program organization and the introduction of innovative teaching formats.
The 2026 awards were formally presented during the University of Bonn’s Universitätsfest on July 11 at KUNST!RASEN in Bonn’s Rheinaue. Around 2,000 graduates attended the ceremony, where the certificates were presented by the university’s vice rectors.
Professor Klaus Sandmann, Vice Rector for Teaching, Learning and University Development, emphasized at the ceremony that effective teaching goes beyond transferring knowledge by encouraging curiosity, independent thinking and confidence among students.
The 2026 award is also significant for nutrition education and food science education. The Institute of Nutritional and Food Science at the University of Bonn offers academic programs including nutrition and food science, nutrition science, molecular food technology and food chemistry.
The institute has highlighted that the 2026 teaching award marks the seventh time since the award’s introduction that a teacher from the Institute of Nutritional and Food Science has received the university teaching prize.
For students pursuing nutrition science, strong teaching can play an important role in translating complex scientific concepts into practical academic knowledge. Recognition through a university teaching award therefore also highlights the importance of teaching excellence within specialized scientific disciplines.
